You present all the elements to your interviewee, and ask him/her to identify

two elements which are most similar and why (specifying the attribute they

have in common); then the element which is the most different on that

attribute, identifying the contrasting pole.

If you’re using file cards, with element names written on them, you can simply

fan out all of the cards in front of your interviewee and ask him/her to choose

three cards, put the rest to one side, and group the chosen three into a pair and

a singleton.
