Any inferences about construing which you draw from your interviewee’s

non-verbal behaviour (smiles, pauses, or looks of puzzlement or contentment,

the significant twitches of the social process in which you’re engaged) need to

be noted and checked. You’ll find more about the importance of process in

analysis in Section 5.3.1, by the way.

And so we’re back to our point of departure at the start of this section. It

doesn’t matter how we do it, so long as we know the reason for doing it, and

identify the other person’s constructs accurately, as s/he understands them,

being sure of it after checking with the interviewee.
