BACKGROUND: Started in 1944 as a small school, FIT has become
a leading venue for the study of fashion. It also offers
programs in design, computer technology, merchandising,
production, and more.
DESCRIPTION: The program, which runs for three weeks in
July, allows students to take one or two classes from FIT’s
popular fashion courses, as well as classes in advertising, marketing,
and jewelry design. Field trips to many museums and
industry showrooms acquaint youngsters with the realities of
a career in fashion.
OUR TAKE: This would be a great opportunity for the creative
student who wants to learn the fashion ropes and get some
useful background in marketing, advertising, and more.
OUR RECOMMENDATION: If your child is interested in fashion
design, this is probably the best place to be. It’s a great head
start! Since there is no boarding program, it is best to check
early to see what is available nearby.
